Rotary on the River - Institute 2007 Rotary International Director Michael Johns convened the 44th Zones 27 and 28 Institute at the Rivercenter in Davenport, Iowa. PDG Tom Thorfinnson was the General Institute Chair. Very special Rotarians were Rotary International President-Elect Dong Kurn and Youn-Ja Lee and Rotary International Foundation Trustee David D. Morgan The Institute included Governors-Elect Training Seminar, Governors-Nominee Training Seminar, District Trainers Seminar, District Foundation Committee Coordinators and District Governors Session as well as the Institute Program. The Institute Program included a Wednesday night District Governor Classes Reunion at the Abbey Station and Abbey Hotel. Thursday and Friday's program included Inbound Ambassadorial Scholar, Alex Ngamije; Outbound Scholar, Evan Plummer; House of Friendship with vendors and displays; Abdulai Jalloh, Peace & Conflict Studies Scholar; Eddie Blender, International Chair, World Peace Fellow Initiative. Also featured was District TRF Awards, Major Donor Recognition, keynote speech by RIPE DK Lee, Pleasant Valley High School Spartan Marching Band leading the parade back to the Radisson Grandball Room; presentations by PRIP Chuck Keller and TRFT Lou Piconi about the PolioPlus Status and Polio Partners; Rotary in the Center Stram of Community Impact, Xicotepec Project, Rotarians for Reach out and Read, Volunteers, One of Iowa's Greatest Resources plus 18 breakout sessions. On Saturday, everyone heard the Director's Report, Council on Legislation - Significant Changes, 5-Year Financial Forecast Overview, Nigerian Project - Let's Do Something Big, Engineers Without Border - Clean Water is Deliverable, Thoes Work - Children Being Helped, Presidential Peace Summit , Partnerships - The Power of Synergy, Rotary is Delivering Clean Water & Partnerships are helping, Potential Partners - Rotary with Easter Seals and Autism Disease. For fun and fellowship: Cruising the Mississippi River, seeing the DG 2007 Class Skit performed (it is on-line), Tailgating Extravaganza, Chordbuster Barbershop Quartet entertainment, and a Special Evening - "La Cena - Notte Sotto Le Stelle" that was specifically arranged by Nikki Johns for the last evening of great atmosphere, wonderful cuisine and District Membership Award Presentations. Sunday concluded the Institute with a Interfaith Service and Memorial Tribute, Joseph Dittmar presenting "September 11, 2001 - The World Trade Center, A survivor's Inspirational Account" and ending with all singing Auld Land Syne Over 100 Rotarians have already signed up for the Safari Institute 2008 at Kalahari Center in Sandusky, Ohio SEE YOU THERE !!
